Abadatu Kasumu Memorial Nursery & Primary School was founded in 1980 by Alhaji M. Ade Kasumu, a prominent philanthropist and community-minded individual whose commitment to education and social development continues to be remembered through the institution.
The establishment of the school was inspired by Alhaji M. Ade Kasumu’s desire to provide educational opportunities for children in the community, particularly through his commitment to free education and social services. He believed that education was an important means of empowering young people and developing the community.

The school was named Abadatu Kasumu in honour and memory of his beloved wife, Abadatu. According to the school’s historical record, the institution was initially established after considerable thought and planning, with the intention of providing quality education to children in the community.
Following its establishment, the school obtained the necessary approval from the relevant educational authorities. In its early years, the school started on a temporary site along Ikenne–Aiyepe Road with a very small number of pupils and teaching staff. The school gradually attracted more pupils as members of the community became aware of its educational services.
The founder’s commitment to the welfare of the community extended beyond education. He was involved in community service and social development, contributing to initiatives that benefited the people around him. His contributions to religious and community life.
As the years passed, the school expanded in both enrolment and educational activities. The proprietor introduced different methods of promoting the school and reaching families in the surrounding communities. These efforts contributed to the steady growth of the institution, which eventually developed into a school serving a much larger population of pupils.
The school currently operates both Nursery and Primary sections. Its educational programme is designed to develop children academically, morally, socially and spiritually. The school also seeks to expose pupils to a broad range of learning experiences and prepare them to become responsible members of society.
A major milestone in the school’s history was its continued physical development. Additional classroom blocks were constructed as the school expanded. The development of the school infrastructure reflects the long-term commitment to providing a conducive learning environment for pupils.
The institution celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2025, marking 45 years of educational service from 1980 to 2025. This milestone represents decades of commitment to education, character formation, community development and the welfare of children.
Today, Abadatu Kasumu Memorial Nursery & Primary School continues to uphold the ideals upon which it was founded. Its motto, “Knowledge is Light,” expresses the school’s belief that education illuminates the path to personal development and a better society.
