In 2025, Abadatu Kasumu Memorial Nursery & Primary School marked a milestone that means a great deal to us: 45 years of educating children in Aiyepe, Ogun State. From 1980 to today, our school has grown from five pupils and one teacher into an institution that has shaped generations of families in our community. We wanted to take a moment on our blog to reflect on this journey and on what it means for the families who trust us today.
Where It All Began
Our story starts with one man’s belief that every child deserves access to quality education. Alhaji M. Ade Kasumu, a philanthropist known for his commitment to community development, founded the school in 1980 with a simple but powerful conviction: education empowers young people and strengthens the community around them.
He named the school Abadatu Kasumu in loving memory of his wife, Abadatu, a tribute that has carried her name, and his vision, forward for 45 years.
The school began modestly, on a temporary site along the Ikenne–Aiyepe Road, with just five pupils and a single teacher. His son, Alhaji Jamiu Kasumu, stepped in as the school’s first Head Teacher, guiding those early days with the same dedication that would come to define the institution.
Four and a Half Decades of Growth
What started small grew steadily, year after year, as families across the community came to know and trust the quality of education we provide. Classroom blocks were added. Teaching staff expanded. New generations of children walked through our gates; many of whom now send their own children to us today.
Through every stage of this growth, one thing has remained constant: our motto, “Knowledge is Light.” It has guided every lesson taught, every value instilled, and every child nurtured within our walls since 1980.
What 45 Years Has Taught Us
Reaching this milestone has reminded us of a few truths we hold close:
Education is a long-term investment. The pupils who first walked through our doors decades ago are now parents, professionals, and community leaders; living proof that early investment in a child’s education pays off across a lifetime.
Community trust is earned, not given. Every family who has chosen Abadatu Kasumu Memorial over the years has done so because of consistent, visible commitment to their children’s growth — academically, morally, and spiritually.
A founder’s vision can outlive its founder. Though Alhaji M. Ade Kasumu is remembered as our founder, his vision continues to guide the school today, carried forward by the staff, leadership, and community he inspired.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate 45 years, we are also looking to the future. Our vision remains clear: to be a leading institution that nurtures academically excellent, morally upright, and spiritually grounded individuals who go on to contribute positively to society. Our mission continues to guide us; providing high-quality, faith-guided education that builds strong character alongside strong academics.
We are grateful to every parent, teacher, and pupil who has been part of this story, and we look forward to writing many more chapters together.
